Sod & Fertilizing
There’s more to fertilizing your lawn than you may think!
Age, environment, and timing oh my! These are only three things to consider when determining how best to fertilize a lawn. It seems you almost have to be a scientist to get it right. But you don’t have to worry about any of it. At Dickerson Landscaping of Tallahassee, we’ve got you covered.
Healthy lawns depend on a variety of factors among them being the right amount of water, sun, carbon dioxide, plus nutrients or essential elements. Sometimes there are not enough of these nutrients in the soil and that’s where fertilizing comes in.
It is actually a science to get it right; there are at least eighteen elements that plants need to grow properly. The improper amount of any of these can inhibit the lawn’s growth.
Add to the fact that fertilizing should be done differently depending on whether it is a new lawn or it is an established lawn. The time of year, as well as weather conditions are two more factors that affect the type of fertilizing that should be done.
There are some fertilizers that are combined with herbicides. The rationale behind this is to reduce the amount of lawn maintenance. But these come with other issues. Bottom line is by using these as a combination product they can reduce the effectiveness of both. There is an exception to this and that is using a fertilizer with a pre-emergent crabgrass herbicide.
